Adria Airways In-Flight Magazine October - November 2010 There are around 2,500 people living in the village, all descendants of slaves brought from Africa at the beginning of the 18th century. Mainly from Ghana, Nigeria and God knows what countries. The government social programme pulled them out of their dark past and ignorance. In 2003, throughout the country, and in this village too, institutions called “missions” were set up to provide the population with literacy, college and higher-level education, healthcare and shops selling subsidised foodstuffs. The local residents are proud of their village, of their life and their cocoa, which they export to Italy. |
That Fairy-tale Village. That Cocoa Village.
